Pinterest SEO search engine optimization Is one of the key factors of your
success on this platform. You can just upload some images or videos
and hope that they will go viral no matter How viral they might have been
on other social media platforms. Pinterest is not just
the social media site. It's also a search engine. And you have to know what works In Pinterest SEO this year
if you want to succeed. Hi, I'm Anastasia of AnastasiaBlogger.com. And on this channel, I share my Pinterest
marketing and online business tips. And if that's what you want to learn,
then subscribe and hit the Bell button if You want to get notifications
when my new videos go live. So let's have a look at what has recently Changed on Pinterest and how
it affected Pinterest SEO. So the first thing I want to cover is this New field and I'll text that you will find
if you try to create a pin using Pinterest Native scheduler or just
upload a pin right here. If you use create a pin button. If you try to schedule only Repins using
Tailwind scheduler, you will not find this Field there any place
there to add alt text. So a lot of people might be asking, Why would I add, I'll text to Pinterest
and what does that even mean. So just like for Google SEO alt text is An alternative text added to photos first
and foremost for web accessibility. So what does it mean. It's for visually impaired users that will
be using screen readers to read an alt Attribute and to understand better
what is on the image itself. So that was in terms of user experience. But as a search engine, Google is
using alt text for two reasons. First, I'll text will be displayed In place of the image if
the image is loading slow. And the second implication is that this Text will help the search engine
understand better the context of the image And the description, and that helps
to index this image problem.
So if you ask me how long should be your
alt text, whether or not it should just Copy paste your description for This pin,
I don't recommend copy pasting the whole Description because for Pinterest
descriptions are pretty long. It's up to 500 characters and you're Trying to include lots of keywords
there and probably even hashtags. And that's what shouldn't
be in your text for sure. In the text you want to describe basically Whatever is on the image itself,
keeping in mind this will be for visually Impaired people, for them
to understand what's there. And also I think that for Pinterest, Since we're using a lot of text overlay,
I think it's worth actually writing In the text that on the image,
the text says this and that. Right. So you give more context for people
to understand that it's not just an image Of the computer, but it's a pin about
Pinterest marketing, for example. And the second tip is about video pins. You know, that video pins are now
getting more and more popular on Pinterest Since it's a relatively new format, it's
not even available on all accounts yet. Pinterest is giving priority distribution
to video pins there is an issue With the Europeans because they're
not so easy to click from them. But I will talk about it a little later. But now I just wanted to talk about
specifically SEO with video repins. So in terms of SEO video, Pins have this functionality to add tags
and that's basically another way to tell Pinterest how to categorize your pins. So here's how it looks
on regular pins you don't have this add Text field and for video
pins you have it. So what you need to do here is start Typing the keyword that you
think is the most relevant. I will try marketing, for example. So when I look at this marketing, I can start tagging things related
to marketing, marketing in general. I think in this case content
marketing is is a good thing. Also, marketing tools,
Marketing tools, Sorry, marketing tools Is a great tag for this. Let's say that Christmas is coming soon
and you want to show it to more audience. So what you might think to you would be
doing, like I know some people are doing On Instagram, they start
adding some hashtags. And in this case you could add
a tag related to Christmas. But of course, this doesn't help Your pin
to rank for the relevant keywords And in general doesn't help
with engagement because users will not Find this pin relevant to their interest,
which was Christmas in that case. And then basically they
will not engage with it. And for Pinterest in terms of algorithm,
when you don't get enough engagements, Especially early on when Your pin is new,
then Pinterest decides that that's Probably a bad thing and or
it's linked to the wrong page. And so it's not going to show
your pin to more people. And now that we are looking at a video,
I just wanted to also mention this thing, The tag products
I can, that allows you to add any products Or maybe even regular pins on your account
that are related. So in this case, it's related
to Pinterest marketing. I can just search for Pinterest Marketing tips and I could just tag as
many products or regular pins that are Related to Pinterest marketing and they
would all show up underneath my pin. That's not exactly related to SEO,
but actually it helps you get more traffic From your video pins since it's
not so easy, especially in my. Mobile devices to click from your video,
pins. Now the next thing that has changed Tremendously and quite recently
on Pinterest and a lot of people are Worried about it, is that now we don't see
this colorful boxes underneath the search Bar, at least on desktop,
actually on mobile devices. It really depends on the device or
on the app or on specific account. I cannot tell what it depends on. Sometimes Pinterest is testing
different interfaces at the same time. So I can tell you that on my business Account I don't see it
neither on desktop nor on mobile device. I don't see any search suggestions
Underneath the search bar and at the same
time from the same IP address. My husband is a logging into his
Pinterest app, on the phone, On the smartphone and for his
account, nothing has changed. He's still seeing all the search
suggestions underneath the search bar. So what shall we do now
for keyword research? There are many other ways of keyword
research and I talk about them in detail In one of the lessons in my Pinterest SEO
traffic secrets course, I will give you a link to that course
in the top right corner. It should be, I think, above my head And also in the description
below this video. Anyway, one of the ways you can Do some keyword research,
it might not work for all the keywords That you're looking for, but for most
of the keywords you will find. If you scroll a few times, You will find blocks of keyword searches
like this or like this, which is more More related actually to the initial
search that I have done here. I could search for something else just
to see if we will see more suggestions Here on the left side would always see
these blocks with related searches. So from this, you can understand what are
the popular related searches And that helps you basically write your
pin descriptions or more descriptions. If you're doing keyword research
to build up your boards. Just hold on a second. I just thought about the people Who probably found this video by searching
for Pinterest SEO tips for this year. And they might find this video And they might be like,
what the heck she's talking about. Right. That's probably because you need to watch
one of my Pinterest SEO one on one or Basic videos that will explain you all the
foundational things about Pinterest SEO. I will give you a couple of links to those Videos in the top right corner
and in the description below this video. But this video, this one specific video is
actually more about the recent changes In Pinterest algorithm or
in terms of Pinterest SEO. And so I'm not focusing on the
foundations and the basics here.
I'm just talking about the recent changes. Right now, another thing that has, again,
quite recently changed on Pinterest is That hashtags are again becoming
quite irrelevant for this platform. It seems like Pinterest has been On and off with hashtags, with their game,
with hashtags for a couple of years. They were saying,
add them to your pin descriptions, Not to to the board descriptions,
but pin descriptions. And they are clickable there. And they were even working as
a specific type of searches. But nowadays, This specific type of searches for most
recent repins it was doesn't work anymore. So if you just search for home decor
ideas, let's say what it shows you. If you try to open several of this pin, You will see that some will have
the hashtag and the others will not. So Pinterest was not supposed to show
the pins that don't have this hashtag over Here anywhere in the description,
but they do show them here. So they just mix in together everything That is related to the keyword
home decor ideas. So if you ask me whether or not you should Be still using hashtags and doing some
research for the hashtags, first of all, There is no way you can understand which
hashtag is more popular on Pinterest. There is no tool for this. They don't show in any way. How popular is this hashtag
or another hashtag? You can just basically try to guess which
hashtags would be relevant to Your pin. But again, even if you do so,
I don't think they're helping you much. You can still use a couple of hashtags,
but be careful using many of them because Pinterest likely at some point
in the future will start saying that, oh, People are using hashtags
for spammy behaviors. I've actually seen on one of the Facebook
groups for bloggers, Someone shared a screenshot
from a response of Pinterest support Representative who actually specify
that this user was using a few hashtags. Schily, not so many. She was using some hashtags in Pin
descriptions and that Pinterest
Representatives told her,
in spite of what it said on their own, Helped send her articles about
hashtags that you can use them. That Pinterest representative said that
while this might be considered spammy. So I'm just telling you, Maybe this year hashtags will
become completely irrelevant. Let's see how it goes. At least the search for hashtags does. And work as it used to work,
doesn't show the recently added bins On the platform, it just shows the results
basically for the keyword that is after The hashtag and not
for the hashtag itself. Now, the next tip that I want to mention Here is when you're creating several
versions of pins for the same page on your Site,
Tailwind, which is the official scheduler For Pinterest, they started recommending
that you use different keywords In the titles and descriptions of your
pins so that you can appeal with your Different PIN versions
to different types of audiences. And they give you an example here That the same pin is used
with several different keywords. One is related to weddings, Another is related to cocktails, and
another is related to holiday parties. So it's three different text overlays
for the Repins and they also use The different keywords when they save
This pin to different boards again. Previously Pinterest was OK with saving The same pin to multiple boards with the
same exact pin titles pin descriptions. Now Pinterest is trying to forward through
Tailwind this message that ideally we Should actually add some keyword Story
pins titles and descriptions that are more Relevant to each type of audience
and to each boards where we're going To save This pin if we're trying
to compare Pinterest SEO and Google SEO. I used to tell you all the time The Pinterest SEO is much easier
because there is a lot of duplication. You're saving pins with the same titles
and pin descriptions over and over. This is kind of coming to an end or Pinterest is trying to stop
that duplication as much as they can. So they're trying to tell
us be more creative.
And when you're using the same content
page on your site and you want to upload It several times with different pins
on Pinterest, you have to be more creative And use different keywords and show this
pin to multiple different audiences. And another thing that not a lot of people
understand about Pinterest platform And how it's different from Google SEO is
that on this platform you can basically In the same Pinterest account,
you can cover several different topics. I can talk now about this with more
confidence because recently Pinterest Started recommending as one of the ways
how you can drive more traffic to your Site from Pinterest even in their support
reply's, when people are asking, like, What should I do, why my traffic
and stuck, why is dropping, etc. .
Pinterest support even tells people Directly, don't worry about
testing different topics. Something trending on Pinterest will Always help you drive more
traffic from this platform. So for me, I understand that Pinterest is Not requiring us as Google SEO
for Google SEO we need to be narrowly niched. Do we need to focus on a specific keyword
or specific topic when we write content For our site for Pinterest
is not necessary. If you are targeting different keywords, Different trending topics,
you are always going to get traffic no Matter what is the main
topic of your account. So don't worry about experimenting. I think it's not going to hurt you or Pinterest performance
of your profile in general. And whenever you can find a correlation Between a holiday or a trending topic
with your content, always try to do that. If you're writing any type of content
on your site that can be somehow related To gifts, to holidays,
always try to do that, Create some boards in advance,
at least couple a couple of months In advance for holidays
and start saving your pins that might be Somehow related to those
holidays, to those boards. And you will see that your traffic will be Always getting these viral
spikes from Pinterest. Now, if you want to learn more about
